The Trocar, an on-line video journal of gynecologic endoscopy, is a periodical devoted to spread knowledge regarding minimally invasive surgical techniques used for the health care of women. The journal will consider publicating Original Papers, Short Reports, Case Reports, New Instrumentations and Technical Developments, Article and Book Reviews, Letters to Editor, and any suggestions or complications occurred in the field of endoscopy and endoscopic surgery relating to the upper female genital tract and pelvic organs with extension to abdominal general surgery.
Submissions of papers
The original must be submitted together with a letter signed by the first author stating the following "This work is original material that has not been published previously in full or in part except in abstract form and is not under consideration by another journal". All papers and corrispondences should be submitted directly to info@thetrocar.com.
For any question, you may e-mail the Editorial Office at info@thetrocar.com It is advised that you retain copies of your papers. The full e-mail address, postal address, telephone and fax number of the first author should be included together with a permission of desclosing the author's web address. Please provide no more than two professional affiliations for each author. These will appear as a footnote on the first page of the article. Also on the title page, please specify what, if any, financial interest you may have in any aspect of the work (e.g., instrument manufacturer) or financial support you may have received (e.g., grants). Articles will usually be reviewed by expert referees within 1 month and sent to the Editors for a final decision. Manuscripts that require revisions are returned with reviwers' recommendations.
Preparation of manuscripts
All manuscripts must be written in English. They must be edited using MS Word 97-2000 for Windows, txt or rtf file, which allows conversion from a range of other word processors. If you are using a MAC computer you will need to save it as a Word for Windows file. Scientific names of drugs should be used at all times. Weights and measures must be expressed in metric values and temperatures in Celsius (Centigrade). Abbreviations must be written in full at the beginning of a sentence. English spelling will be used and authors should refer to The Concise Oxford Dictionary. It is your responsability to obtain written permission to reproduce figures, tables, text and video from published material.
Title page
The first page should contain the following informations: a full title and a running title with no more than 50 characters; the full name, title, and e-mail address of each author; the name of the institutions; the name and e-mail address of the author to whom correspondence will be addressed and who agrees to correspond on the web (FORUM).
Keywords
Up to five key words, which may or may not appear in the title, should be given in alphabetical order, below the title, each separated by a slash (/). These key words, together with the title and abstract, form the basis of the RESEARCH section. Therefore, please, give them careful consideration
Sections of the manuscript
All main articles ( manuscripts that represent original research) must have a structured abstract, not exceeding 250 words, including some or all of the headings, Objective, Design, Setting, Subjects, Interventions, Main results, and Conclusions,as appropriate.Abbreviations and reference citations should be avoided. Subsequent page should contain the following: Introduction, Subjects and Methods, Results, Discussions, Acknowledgements, References, Tables, Figures, and Videos. Manuscripts that do not contain original research are placed in the most appropriate section of the journal; for example: Article Reviews, Short or Case Reports, New Instrumentations and Techniques, and Clinical Opinions and Complications. These manuscripts require abstracts in paragraph form. Letters to the Editor are published at the discretion of the Editors but will appear in the FORUM section.

Tables
Tables should be numbered consecutively in Roman numerals (e.g. Table I) within the text and typed on separate pages. They must be accompanied by an appropriate short caption. All abbreviations should be explained in a footnote.
Figures, Illustrations
Figures should also be numbered consecutively in Arabic numerals (e:g: Figure 1) within the text and drawn on separate pages. If possible, please, send us digital version of your figures. These should be saved as JPG if sent by E-mail to: image@thetrocar.com or saved as TIFF or BMP if you intend send a CD-Rom. (Mail to: Studio Alfa, Viale Regina Margherita 157, 00198 Rome, Italy).
Videos
The videos must be saved as Quicktime 3.0 or later (www.apple.com), not compressed, in 320 x 240 format. They should not exceed 60" in lenght. A maximum of four videos are allowed for each article. For information, please contact: video@thetrocar.com . The videos must be submitted as a CD-Rom directly to the Editor (Mail to: Studio Alfa, Viale Regina Margherita,157, 00198 Rome, Italy) with the following informations: The title, the author's name, and the article that has be referenced in the video, the dimensions in MB, an abstract description of what has been taped, and the description of all the instruments that have been used in the video.
Statistics
Authors are advised that inadequate or incorrect statistical analysis will cause rejection or delays during the refereeing of manuscipts. The methods of statistical analysis must be defined in the methods section of the manuscript. Those not in common use must be described in detail or supported by references.

References

Only closely related and essential references should be quoted. It is the first author's responsability to check the accuracy of all references in the manuscript and the proofs. Manuscripts not yet in press, papers reported at meetings and personal communications may be cited only in the text with the author's initials and first name and not as a formal reference. In the text, a reference should be cited by the author's name and a date. No more than two authors may be cited for a reference; if there are more than two authors, you should use et al. At the end of the manuscript, the citations should be typed in alphabetical order, with the authors' last names and initials inverted. Please limit the number of authors to three; if there are more than three authors, use et al. References should be presented in the following order: authors'names; paper's title; jornal's title; year;volume number; inclusive page numbers; and name and address of publisher (for books only). The name of the journal should be abbreviated according to the World List of Scientific Periodicals. The journal requests that the following formats be used for all the references.

Journal article: Phillips G, Garry R, Kumar C and al. How much gas is required for initial insufflation at laparoscopy? Gynecol Endosc 1999;8:369-374.

Book: Victor Lewis B, Magos AL. Endometrial Ablation. Churchill Livingston,New York,1993.

Human and animal experiments
The Editors draw the Authors'attention to the Declaration of Helsinki and the Guiding Principles in the Care and Use of Animals (DHEW Publication, NIH,80-23). The Editors reserve the right not to accept papers unless adherence to the principles embodied in these documents are apparent.
Proofs
You will receive page proofs by e-mail. A mail replying to the referees' points, item by item, must be included together with a copy of the file in which changes have been highlighted. Proofs must be returned within 10 days of receipt; major alterations will not be accepted. We are looking forward to your contribution !!!
